words from the artist

"Stockholm is a city in motion — from its deep history to its vibrant present. I wanted the artwork to reflect that journey, just like the marathon itself."

The way of Saint Erik

The artwork

The Way of Saint Erik is the official finisher artwork for the 2025 adidas Stockholm Marathon — a visual journey through the soul of Sweden’s capital, created by Stockholm-based artist Gustaf Öhrnell Hjalmars in collaboration with Memorace. Inspired by the city’s light, rhythm, and resilience, it blends iconic landmarks with the vibrant energy of the course.

From the silhouette of City Hall and the cast iron spires of Riddarholm Church to the modern glow of Globen and the patterned pulse of Sergels Torg, the piece captures the dynamic contrast that defines Stockholm.
