The Way of Saint Erik is the official finisher artwork for the 2025 adidas Stockholm Marathon — a visual journey through the soul of Sweden’s capital, created by Stockholm-based artist Gustaf Öhrnell Hjalmars in collaboration with Memorace. Inspired by the city’s light, rhythm, and resilience, the piece blends iconic landmarks with the vibrant atmosphere experienced along the course.
From the striking silhouette of City Hall and the copper spires of Riddarholm Church to the modern glow of Globen and the triangle-patterned heart of Sergels Torg, the artwork brings to life the contrasting beauty of Stockholm — where history and innovation coexist. Saint Erik, the city’s patron and symbol of endurance, leads the way as a central figure, running forward among bridges, sailing boats, and the steady pulse of metro trains beneath the streets.
The route unfolds through lush parks, ferry crossings, and waterfront promenades, capturing the spirit of Djurgården, the traditions of Skansen, and the city’s love of outdoor terraces and open-air culture. Stadion, with its iconic metro station and historic finish, anchors the piece with pride.
A tribute to every finisher’s achievement and to a city shaped by movement, water, and light — this limited edition artwork is a timeless reminder of a race run through one of Europe’s most beautiful capitals.
